The CN114.7 rotary piston gas meter “transfers” known amounts of gas from the inlet to the outlet as two suitably shaped pistons turn. The amount of gas transferred to the outlet by each turn of the pistons is multiplied by the number of piston turns, which is read by the register that meters the total amount of gas that passed through the meter. In the new cartridge design, the impellers, synchronisation gears and bearings are fixed and positioned by a synchroplate in one single operation, so the tolerances can be controlled with the highest level of precision. As a consequence, the distance between the pistons and the body of the meter is equally spaced, making the meters less sensitive to dirt and debris. The reduced piston length and the high-tensile shaft connecting the gears to the pistons makes the meters less sensitive to pressure and flow shock, so flexibility or piston curvature have no impact on metering.
